He let slip he'd been cut from the will. The will stayed sealed till the morning reading.
A country house the night before a will was read, the document sealed in the solicitor's case and locked away till morning. The drawing-room lamp burned low. No one in the house had yet seen a line of the old man's last wishes, whatever any of them feared.

INCIDENT REPORT. Edmund Larch was found at dawn in his bedchamber, smothered beneath his own pillow. His will lay sealed in the solicitor's locked case and was not opened until the morning reading; its contents were known to no one in the house that night. Five of the family and household were awake in the small hours. Each gave an account. One of them speaks of what the will contained before any seal was broken.
