He said he unwrapped the gift the dead man sent. The parcel sat at the station all night.

A merchant's townhouse the night a parcel meant for the household still sat unclaimed at the station office, the last carrier having failed to come. The hall table where it should have lain stood bare, and no one in the house had so much as touched the thing.
