An apothecary's dispensary, interwar, a sea-fret, labelled jars, a missing bottle.

INCIDENT REPORT. Marlow Rooke, purser of the steam packet Corvina, was found dead in the back room of the Harbour Dispensary after closing, a bottle gone from the poison shelf and the register unsigned. One fact stands settled: the telegram addressed to him was handed in at half past eleven and carried to the dispensary only at midnight, the post office delivery book signed to the minute. Rooke was dead before it crossed the door, and no one in that house read the wire before midnight. Five were near the shop that evening. One account will not hold.
